Silent Wings Museum

This museum tells the story of gliders that were used during World War II.

This museum packs in a lot of history. There is a short video that gave an overview of the glider squadrons in the war and then everything from war memoribilia, to documented timelines of events, to diorama's to life size scenes, and finally several gliders in a large auditorium.

The quality of this musuem was comparable to what is expected in a larger town. Extremely well done!

The Buddy Holly Center

This is a great place to learn more about Buddy and on many summer evenings there is live music in the courtyard.

Joyland Amusement Park

A run place to take you smaller children.

Buddy Holly Statue and West Texas Walk of Fame

This is a great outdoor venue that recognizes the contributions of West Texans to the world of music, including everyone from Buddy Holly to Waylon Jennings to Natalie Maines, to Mac Davis.

American Wind Power Center

The American Wind Power Center has become one of our favorite places to visit. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. There are so many windmills to see! The history is priceless. The large mural has been completed and is amazing - so many details that tell a wonderful story of West Texas. This part of the world has a rich history and is often overlooked. It is so pleasant to stroll through the indoor windmills as well as the outdoor windmills.

National Ranching Heritage Center

It's so neat to see the different buildings throughout history. I highly recommend going on the days when they have special events.

They have reenactors, roping, horse riding demonstrations, and even chuck wagon treats! Very fun field trip or just family outing!

McPherson Cellars Winery

Along the brick streets of Texas Avenue sits McPherson Cellars, which sets the standard for design in Lubbock: it repurposed the old Coca Cola Bottling Plant. I covet a seat on the patio with the exploding colors, appropriate landscaping, exposed beams, metalwork and more. And if the atmosphere isn't enough, the wine is fabulous. You'll see the bottles of McPherson wine on menus across the state; yes, it is that good.

Lubbock Cemetery

Resting place of Buddy Holly.

Prairie Dog Town

This is basically a city park with a small retaining wall around the edges. Prairie dogs run wild in this area "Prairie Dog Town".

Lake Alan Henry

Great lake for fishing and sking. Excellent hiking and camping facilities. One of West Texas' largest lakes. Nice modern boat ramps.

Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theater

It is a fun time for everyone. A drive in is not something you can get in a lot of cities now, so glad Lubbock has one. If you go you must try the "Chiuaua". It is a specialty of the Drive in. It is a chalupa with homemade chili and pimento cheese. Sounds crazy but it is their thing.

Stars & Stripes Drive In is a great place to spend an evening.  Enjoy a double feature from the comfort of your car or bring the lawnchairs if the weather is nice.

Llano Estacado

We brought our family to take the wine tour when they were in town, and everyone had a blast. The staff were knowledgable, friendly and upbeat.
